why study a vocational education course?

Most schools now offer students the opportunity to study courses like construction, metals and engineering, hospitality, information technology and agriculture as part of their Higher School Certificate. By studying one of these vocational subjects, students have the opportunity to complete a nationally recognised, industry related qualification, usually a Certificate I or II pre-apprenticeship qualification.

This qualification, together with the industry experience gained through the mandatory work placement, can give you a great insight into the industry in which you are studying and skills and experience which is highly desirable to employers when you complete school.

Vocational Education, or VET courses as they are known, are not ‘soft’ or easy subjects and they can be counted towards your UAI – ask you schools career adviser for more information!
