What exactly are employers looking for in a young employee?
All employers are different and are seeking different skills and qualities to fit into their business, but research has identified the following generic skills, known as employability skills, which are adaptable to a wide range of work situations and are highly regarded by all employers.
To help young people get a broad understanding of these skills across a range of industries we went out and spoke with key employers from hospitality, personal services, mining, retail, manufacturing, building, printing and graphic design. We asked why these skills were important in their workplace and how young people could start building their skill base right now.
The resulting documentary combines great career advice with a rare look into the working world of the regions key employers. We’ve split this great career resource into chapters, one for each employability skill, so you can skip straight to the skill you’re interested in.
