adopt a school
This page is currently under construction.   Through the Adopt a School programme, Local Community Partnerships encourage businesses to adopt a school in their area, and engage young people in hands-on learning experiences.

The programme builds strong and ongoing partnerships between businesses and schools, which ultimately benefit all those involved. Students are given the opportunity to gain real experience, learn about the career opportunities open to them, and find out about the kinds of skills employers are looking for. On the other hand, local businesses gain experience in working with today’s young people and have a hand in shaping their future workforce. An example of a great Adopt a School programme currently running in the Bathurst/Orange and Central Tablelands area is the Mount Panorama Solar Car Challenge.

Through the Adopt a School Sponsorship (contact your CTS Coordinators for application dates) schools are able to apply for funding to support school/industry partnership projects happening within their school community. Some ideas for projects that your school may apply for funding to support include -

  • Cattle showing in partnership with agriculture industry;

  • Environmental restoration project in partnership with mining company;

  • Barista training in partnership with local café;

  • Motorcycle cradle manufacturing with local metal fabrication firm;

  • Construction of a school/community barbeque area in partnership with local bricklayer;

  • Development of a school or community vegetable garden in partnership with local agricultural business/plant nursery;

  • Development or a restoration of a local/school nature reserve, partnering with horticulturalists, landscapers etc.;

  • Simulated business projects through the Australian Network of Practice Firms http://virtualenterprise.com.au/index.php using local business as a mentor;

  • Textiles/Clothing production project with a local theatre company or primary school to produce costumes, using local seamstress/tailor as an industry mentor;

  • Vehicle restoration project in conjunction with local car yard, panel shop and mechanic; or

  • Creating etched or water colour images with the assistance of a local artist to create thank you cards for school use, or for a fundraising activity.

If you have any other ideas for a sponsorship application, please don’t hesitate to contact the CTS Coordinators (see our contacts page) to discuss it further!
