26/11/2008 - Mastering the art of coffee-making

St Stanislaus' College - CTS Project

STUDENTS from St Stanislaus' College have been involved in an initiative to link local businesses with local schools. The programme, sponsored by Central West NSW Youth Transition Services Inc, is designed to facilitate the development of partnerships between school and industry so as to provide hands-on learning experiences for young people.

Peter Weekes, a barista from Banjo's Cafe, volunteered to put some of the Stannies boys through their paces on the school's coffee machine on Tuesday.

According to Paul McDonald from Stannies, the boys not only learnt how to make a cappuccino, flat white and the highly regarded Cafe Latte, but also how to clean and maintain the coffee machine.

"Stannies sees this as a great benefit to the school as Peter not only educated the students, but also staff who will be able to pass on their new found knowledge for the years to come," he said. "Students who benefited from this program included Year 11 Hospitality students and selected boarders who will apply their skills during the busy rugby season.

"St Stanislaus' College would like to thank Karen Golland and CWYTSfor their on-going support, and Peter Weekes from Banjo's for all his time and patience."
