18/11/2008 - Lithgow Mock Interview Project

Students skilled up for interview performance!

As students head towards the end of the 2008 school year Lithgow Learning Centre transformed itself into a career skills hub with students from Lithgow and Kandos High School participating in this years’ Mock Interview Project.

The Mock Interview Project, organized by Central West NSW Youth Transition Services, gives students the unique opportunity to follow the job seeking process from advertisement to interview. Students learn how to prepare an application including writing resumes and cover letters, personal presentation, and interview performance. Each student gets the opportunity to sit an interview for a mock position and is given valuable, on the spot feedback from human resources staff assisting with the project.

The benefits for these students are priceless, as CWYTS Career and Transition Coordinator, Karen Golland states “The day gives these young people their first insight into interview protocol. The individual advice each student receives from human resource experts conducting the interview will prove invaluable as they navigate their way into their chosen career.”

The day was hosted by Lithgow Learning Centre with local professionals from Thales Australia, Delta Electricity, Central West Group Apprentices, Mission Australia, TAFE NSW Western Institute and Skillset donating their time and expertise. The day went off without a hitch with Karen Golland recognizing Lithgow’s part in the days’ success. “For the Mock Interview Project to be this successful we need the support of local professionals and their organisations, dedicated teaching staff and enthusiastic, positive students. We had these three elements on Tuesday, making the day a wonderful reflection of Lithgow’s community spirit.”
