Year 11 Excursion
"We left early Wednesday morning and arrived in Wollongong at lunchtime and headed straight for the beach. To our surprise the water was crystal clear and the conditions were perfect for a swim. We then had a tour of the Uni. where we were split into two groups. One of the groups saw Shawn Timmins in the gym and sports complex, which had an Olympic sized heated pool and squash courts, basketball courts and ovals including a turf field. We looked at all the different facilities which were really well designed and fairly new. Our tour guides gave us a talk on Uni life and options for entry. After dinner at East Campus, we went to a movie night where they turn their hall into a theatre. It was a double feature but we opted out midway after 'The Water Horse'. We were woken up at a ridiculous time for a cooked breakfast and guided tour of the accommodation at East Campus. We then spent all day at Jamberoo Action Park. We attempted every ride numerous times. The weather was great and the Tipan was our favourite ride. A beach visit, where some went for a swim, was squeezed in before tea. We did some late night shopping before a private session in the Science Centre and Planetarium. There were many 'hands on' activities and the Liquid Nitrogen Show and Planetarium visit were really interesting. We found out all the locations of the stars and watched the Origins of Life projected on the dome ceiling.
On day three we went to Fairy Meadow Beach before arriving at U.W.S Campbelltown Campus and touring the new $50 million Medical Centre. We then went into the VWS courtroom, which has been used in 'Home and Away'. After leaving the Law Faculty, we looked at an interactive Nursing lesson where the first semester students were taking their blood pressure. At Kingswood and Nepean Campuses, we watched the robotics in action, which were amazing. They were part of the Mechatronics Engineering Degree. We also saw the Civil Engineering students at work on the lawn. We visited the Visual Design and Communication Labs, which included huge darkrooms, very expensive broadcast rooms and professional photography studios. Exhausted we headed for home at about 3pm arriving back home at 7pm on the dot.
Overall the trip was very insightful. We all have a much clearer idea of what University life is like. Amongst all the educational tours, everyone managed to have fun the entire time. We would like to send big thanks to all our tour guides and those who helped with the organisation of our trip, especially Mr and Mrs Adamthwaite. Thank you for all the time and effort you put in for our education and enjoyment".
