27/08/2007 - Orange Christian School - School to Work Week.
A week long program for Yr 9 students preparing young people for the world of work.
During Week 6, each Year 9 class spent three days on work experience. The other two days were spent participating in our 'School to Work' program. The main aim of the program was to give the students an idea of what life is like outside school - applying for a job, going for an interview, training and being part of a workplace.
The students took part in the following:
-
Presentation about life at TAFE;
-
Tour of the hospitality, beauty and hairdressing and trades areas of TAFE;
-
Mock interviews, including writing a letter of application, putting together a resume, choosing appropriate clothing and being interviewed by a panel;
-
Tour of McDonalds and discussion of job application process;
-
Guest speakers from Central West Group Apprentices, Central West Community College Recruitment Services and Jeff Hort Engineering; and
-
Visits to various workplaces/businesses around Orange.
Student feedback about the program:
"I found TAFE very interesting - a good learning environment. And it was interesting to find out where a career at McDonalds can take you".
"It was really good. It was fun and an awesome learning experience. We learned what happens during working hours".
"Those two days were great and they showed me how I could achieve my goals in life".
